Captured fugitives Seisidis and Sakkas given until August 17 to prepare defense
Terrorist suspect Costas Sakkas and bank robber Marios Seisidis, who were arrested last week in the Peloponnese, were on Monday given an extension, until August 17, to prepare their defense on charges of theft, forgery and resisting arrest.
The pair appeared earlier in the day at a misdemeanors court where some 50 supporters had gathered to express solidarity with the captured fugitives.
Sakkas, an alleged member of the Conspiracy of the Cells of Fire urban guerrilla group, and Seisidis, a bank robber who had been wanted for years by police, were arrested after trying to avoid a random inspection by police Sparta on Thursday.
They were identified from their arrest warrants.
The warrant for Sakkas was issued when he disappeared in 2014 after violating the terms of his conditional release from prison, while Seisidis is facing charges for participation in a string of bank robberies carried out or attempted with his brother Simos and a man identified as Grigoris Tsironis, nearly 10 years ago.
