Kotzias in FYROM to address meeting of country’s ambassadors

Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias will on Thursday visit Skopje, capital of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), to address an annual gathering of FYROM ambassadors.

Kotzias is scheduled to meet with the Balkan country’s Prime Minister Emil Dimitrie, President Gjorge Ivanov as well as his counterpart Nikola Poposki.

Athens has long refused to accept its neighbor as "Macedonia" and the name dispute has frozen Skopje's bids to join NATO and the European Union. Some Greeks fear accepting "Macedonia" could provide a basis for territorial claims by that country on the northern Greek province of the same name.
