The Olympic canoe-kayak slalom center on the grounds of the old, coastal Athens airport at Hellenikon, pictured in an aerial photo yesterday, is one of the very few Olympic venues that has been completed ahead of schedule. The center was initially planned for the Marathon area, but relocated following intense protests by archaeologists.
