Four officials face trial for embezzling 5.6 mln

A Greek court on Tuesday indicted four people on charges of embezzlement in connection with 5.6 million euros in state funding that was given to the Church of Greece’s charity Allilegii (Solidarity) to be used for the purpose of dispatching humanitarian aid to Iraq in 2005 and 2006 but which never transpired.

The charity had said it intended to send 2.6 tons of frozen chicken meat to the war-zone state but the aid is alleged never to have been sent.
