Former Thessaloniki mayor faces new trial
Former Thessaloniki mayor Vassilis Papageorgopoulos and the local authority’s ex-general secretary Michalis Lemousias have been indicted to a new trial on charges of handling money that was illegally acquired.
The suspects are currently appealing prior convictions over the embezzlement of 17.9 million euros from municipal coffers by the authority’s former treasurer at the Supreme Court, and argue that they cannot be tried for handling illegal money unless their prior convictions are upheld.
