147 attacks against sites of religious importance recorded in 2015
There were 147 attacks against sites of religious significance in Greece in 2015, according to a report published by the department of religious freedoms.
Most of the incidents concerned Christian sites, said the report, which, according to Education Minister Nikos Filis, was published, for the first time, to raise awareness.
More specifically, 137 attacks were aimed at Orthodox-related places and one against a Catholic site. Four Jewish sites were targeted, one less than Muslim-related ones.
“It’s high time our country acquires the ways, methods and procedures, so as to be able to speak without fear and passion,” he said, adding that mutual respect and religious freedom are fundamental pre-requisites to achieve peace within society and national cohesion.
