Notaries will not attend home auctions Wednesday

The coordinating committee of Greece’s union of notaries said its members would not be attending home auctions initiated by banks, the Greek state, pension funds and municipalities on Wednesday.

The committee said that it will, however, allow some auctions to go ahead if permission is applied for by notaries. These include auctions aimed at collecting alimony or unpaid wages, those involving perishables and those concerning assets other than residences, among others.

Notaries are opposing the auctioning of homes as a means of collecting individual debts to the state and have held several protest rallies outside courthouses around the country to block the process.
