Anna Psarouda-Benaki…

Anna Psarouda-Benaki poses for photographers in her new office yesterday after being elected as the first female Parliament speaker in Greece’s history. The 63-year old New Democracy MP, an Athens University professor of law, was backed by 163 of her 300 peers. She replaces PASOK’s Apostolos Kaklamanis, who held the office for the past 11 years. Out of the new deputy speakers, three are ND MPs, two PASOK and one Communist.
