Police investigate suspected victim of deadly Blue Whale game

Officers of the Greek Police’s cyber crimes department have launched an investigation into what appears to be a second victim of the online game Blue Whale, which exhorts teenagers to self harm and suicide and has been linked to dozens of deaths in Russia.

According to police sources, the mother of a 14-year-old boy from Kilkis, northern Greece, claimed that her son received a message on Facebook from an unknown user introducing himself as “Blue Whale” and urging the teenager to cause himself harm.

On receiving the message, the boy told his mother who subsequently checked his Facebook page but the message had been deleted and the profile blocked.

The incident followed a case earlier this month involving a 15-year-old girl from Katerini, near Thessaloniki, who was hospitalized after using a razor to cut her legs and swallowing a large number of sleeping pills, apparently after being drawn into the Blue Whale game.
