Kammenos says ‘politically opposed’ to Koufodinas furlough

Defense Minister Panos Kammenos on Friday said he was “politically opposed” to a decision by prison authorities to grant Dimitris Koufodinas, a leading member of guerrilla group November 17, a 48-hour furlough, adding however that the the government must not interfere with the work of the judiciary.

Kammenos, who is also leader of junior coalition partner Independent Greeks (ANEL), made the comments on Skai TV Friday.

The decision triggered a storm of protest and expressions of regret from Britain and the United States.
