Sixteen held over clashes in wake of November 17 march

Sixteen people were being questioned over on Saturday in connection with violent clashes between self-styled anarchists and police on Friday night following a march marking the anniversary of a student uprising against Greece’s military dictatorship in 1973.

The 16, who were arrested late on Friday, are aged between 18 and 32. They are nine Greeks, two French nationals, two Germans, an Italian, a Lithuanian and an Iraqi.

Meanwhile, a resident of Exarchia who was hit in the leg with a flare in Friday’s clashes underwent on Saturday. The woman, a lawyer, appeared to have been caught in the crossfire during clashes between anarchists and police.
