Woman shot in Exarchia arrested over alleged drug connection

A 41-year-old woman who had been shot and injured on Tuesday evening by an unknown gunman in the central Athens district of Exarchia was arrested on Wednesday on charges of being a member of a gang smuggling drugs from Albania into Greece and other European Union countries.

Police concluded that she was part of the gang during investigations into the shooting.

A 26-year-old foreign national who lived with the woman in Exarchia was also arrested on the same charge. Both are believed to have served as the gang’s money distributors, with police confirming three transactions worth a total of 4,700 euros since May 7.

The suspects were to appear before an Athens prosecutor.
