After their eight-day strike…
After their eight-day strike, street cleaners and trash collectors yesterday began clearing malodorous mounds of rubbish from Athenian streets and sidewalks following the government’s pledge to draft a new bill offering permanent positions to all contract workers and a productivity bonus to be paid in installments over the next four years. Also yesterday, the Aegean regional authorities asked hunters not to shoot birds until December 27. Dozens of swans have been found shot in different parts of the country in recent weeks. The poor weather has driven many birds down into Greece from the north into areas where they have not been seen before.
