Couple electrocuted in home accident
A young man and his wife were both electrocuted in an accident in their home near Halkida on Tuesday in the presence of their year-old child. Costas Koukouras, a 29-year-old merchant marine captain, had gone with his wife Maria and their infant daughter to their holiday home in the village of Aghia Eleousa. Koukouras was using a power tool to drill a hole in the wall when he was electrocuted. His wife, not realizing what had happened, ran to help him but was killed instantly as soon as she touched him. Their bodies were found shortly afterward by the woman’s father. Police say Koukouras had either struck an electric cable in the wall or else the extension cord that was partly lying in water, in which he was standing, was worn away, exposing the wires.
