Cross the threshold…

Visitors cross the threshold of a new exhibition of artifacts from the Acropolis, shown as of yesterday in a neoclassical former military hospital at the foot of the ancient citadel. The display, which will run until December 31, offers a foretaste of how the finds will be exhibited at the New Acropolis Museum, which is under construction a few dozen meters away from the Weiler building, where the 34 artifacts are on view. Most of the exhibits, which include sculptural portraits of the Athenian general Miltiades and Alexander the Great, have never been shown to the public before. The new museum was meant to be ready in time for the Olympics, but was delayed by a legal fight. Completion is now scheduled for 2006.
