Greek PM speaks with Turkish president

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis spoke on the telephone with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday and agreed that the lines of communication between the two countries need to remain open.

According to Greek government sources, Mitsotakis and Erdogan kept the conversation on less sensitive ground, discussing issues like their countries’ respective efforts to tackle the coronavirus pandemic as well as steps to restore tourism between Greece and Turkey.

The same sources suggested that the discussion was an attempt to “break the ice” between the two sides an ease some of the tension that has built up in recent months.
