Strong interest in Paralympic tickets

Two days after tickets for the September 17-28 Paralympics went on sale at the booths just vacated by Olympics seat vendors, some of the events are already sold out, Games organizers said yesterday. The most popular contest so far has proved to be swimming – for which there are no longer tickets available – while the wheelchair basketball matches have also attracted strong spectator interest. Seats for the Paralympic Games, in which some 4,000 physically disabled athletes representing a record 140 countries are to participate, cost between 5 and 50 euros. Tickets for the events cost 10 euros (with a 50 percent discount for schoolchildren, students, conscripts, the disabled and people aged over 65) and do not have seat numbers, while seats for the September 17 opening ceremony are priced at 15, 25 and 50 euros. Entry to the closing ceremony costs 10, 20 or 30 euros. Tickets with seat numbers are available for the semifinals and finals of some events, and cost 20 euros. Tickets can be bought at 11 Alpha Bank branches in Athens and Piraeus, at Athens 2004 booths and at Paralympic venues.
