Forger craved James Bond reception in club

An unemployed man, who posed as a secret serviceman in a vain bid to impress a nightclub bouncer, has been arrested for forgery and illegal weapons possession, police said yesterday. The 39-year-old suspect from Nea Malgara, a township some 25 kilometers (16 miles) southwest of Thessaloniki, showed the nightclub employee a forged National Intelligence Agency (EYP) identity card, apparently in the hope of receiving the high-end treatment befitting a glamorous spy. But the bouncer smelled a rat, and called police who quickly identified the card as a fake. Officers who searched the suspect’s flat – the man’s name was not made public – discovered another six forged cards variously identifying him as a policeman, a Europol officer, an EYP agent and a Defense Ministry employee. Police also seized three airguns and a replica handgun.
