World ratings record
The Athens Olympics broke all ratings records, with some 3.9 billion people watching, 300 million more than in Sydney. A total 35,000 hours of television time was broadcast from Athens, 27 percent more than previous Olympics. What singled Athens out was also an increase in the amount of live broadcasts, as well as the technological innovations used, according to a survey presented by International Olympic Committee Chairman Jacques Rogge at Sportel Monaco, an international sports and television convention held earlier this month.
