Inmates at Korydallos…

Inmates at the Korydallos top security prison in western Athens are silhouetted against a window in the prison hospital yesterday. Justice Minister Anastassis Papaligouras visited the hospital at Greece’s biggest prison yesterday, in response to a letter from convicts who are HIV-positive. Afterward, he told journalists that steps would be taken to improve their lot. ‘I have spoken to the prison hospital authorities and they will do whatever is required to drastically and swiftly improve conditions,’ Papaligouras said. Like all Greek prisons, Korydallos suffers from massive overcrowding.
