Authorities in the Evros prefecture…
Authorities in the Evros prefecture in Thrace remained on standby yesterday as the water level of the rain-swollen river dropped in its northernmost section but rose further south. The water level fell to 5.48 meters at Pythio (photo) where the emergency level is 5.70 meters. However, at Kipoi the river was flowing 4 meters deep, the standby level, and at Petalo it had risen to 6.05 meters, half a meter above the standby level. An estimated 3,300 hectares of land are believed to have been flooded since the river broke its banks last Thursday. There were no casualties, and no settlements were affected.
