‘Terrorist’ extradition is refused

Greece needs to build on its Olympic Games know-how and create a body which will coordinate domestic security matters ranging from natural disasters to terrorist threats, the public order minister said yesterday. Giorgos Voulgarakis said the the current system for dealing with security crises was «fragmented» and «unwieldy.» He said that there were too many bodies and command centers involved and that the system was often ridden with bureaucracy, a lack of coordination and infighting. Funds were not being properly allocated because there had not been a proper assessment of the equipment and staff available, Voulgarakis added. The ministry is expected to present a bill soon concerning the formation of a research center which will aim to use the experience gained from the Olympics and help create a body to coordinate crisis management around Greece.
