Aghios Cosmas and old racetrack delaying draft law

Delays in tabling a bill on the post-Olympic use of the venues is reportedly due to the fact that future plans for the Aghios Cosmas yachting complex are not yet complete, nor those for the old racetrack at the Faliron Delta. With regard to Aghios Cosmas, it has not yet been decided whether to allow the construction of tourist accommodation at the marina there (considered the largest in the Mediterranean). Some government officials believe a small hotel is mandatory, based on experience from similar sites abroad. Others believe a hotel would compete with one planned for the old airport site at Hellenikon. The debate continues. More complicated is the situation at the old racetrack. Apart from differing opinions within the government, the local municipality of Kallithea has also entered the fray. The site appears destined as green space, although details have not yet been made known. «The remaining questions have been agreed upon,» say officials who worked on the bill. They claim that there are provisions for the involvement of local government at certain sites. There is a similar provision for supporting municipalities with revenues from use of Olympic venues.
