A member of the Presidential Guard stands rigid in front of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier before the House of Parliament yesterday, as a workman touches up the paintwork on his sentry box. The minor refurbishment is part of preparations for the Independence Day military parade – to be held in Athens on Friday in commemoration of the 1821 uprising against Ottoman Turkey – which will pass before the monument.
