With a drip close at hand…

With a drip close at hand, a pregnant Gypsy woman reclines in her family’s pickup truck on the grounds of the central Athens Elena maternity hospital, which had to be partially evacuated yesterday due to a fire. The blaze broke out in the Ambelokipi hospital’s basement around 9.30 a.m., and was extinguished some 50 minutes later following the intervention of 15 firemen in five fire engines. The fire was contained to part of the basement, and nobody was hurt. However, as a precaution – and due to the thick smoke emanating from the basement – parts of the basement and the first floor were evacuated, with newborn babies being taken into the courtyard.
