Greek national soccer squad players celebrate…

Greek national soccer squad players celebrate after holding Turkey to a 0-0 draw in Istanbul on Saturday night, as Turkey’s Necati Ates (r) extends a hand of friendship. In their qualifier for the 2006 World Cup in Germany, the two teams each had good scoring chances – with a shot by Greece’s Stelios Giannakopoulos hitting the Turkish crossbar early in the second half – but failed to deliver. Turkey upped the pressure toward the end of the game, but failed to breach the tenacious Greek defense. The Greek squad’s next qualifying match is against Ukraine on Wednesday, at the Karaiskaki Stadium in southern Athens. The two teams’ previous encounter, last year in Kiev, ended in a 1-1 draw.
