Guided bus tours

As of August 1, Athens is likely to have its own tourist bus, after an initiative by the Transport Ministry. A state-of-the-art bus with a guide on board will drive around the city’s historic sites and other places of interest from Kerameikos to the Acropolis and from Syntagma to Kifissias Avenue. Passengers will be able to get on and off at 25 different stops that will include the larger hotels and museums. «It’s an innovative undertaking for Athens,» said Simos Simopoulos, head of OASA, who thought up the scheme. «If all goes well, next year we will bring in open-top double-decker buses as in other European cities.»
