China seeks security advice

Senior Greek and Chinese officials met in Athens yesterday to exchange information on Olympic Games security-related issues as the Asian country promised to repeat Greece’s success when it hosts the 2008 Summer Games. Public Order Minister Giorgos Voulgarakis and China’s Deputy Public Security Minister Sun Mingshan said the two countries were close to reaching an agreement on security training and intelligence sharing. «We can see that there is a very good effort being made by China, a very good preparation. China can organize safe Olympic Games and I think that measures being taken are in this direction,» Voulgarakis said. The two agreed to meet again in China this summer to finalize the details of the cooperation agreement. Sun said that the successful Olympics organized in Athens will provide China with valuable experience. Greece spent a record 1.2 billion euros on security for the Games.
