Colorful butterflies rest on plants in the forest near the village of Karya on Mount Olympus. Karya, a small traditional settlement, is located near a dense pine forest and because of its altitude, signs of spring can still be seen in the local flora. Mount Olympus, in Thessaly, is the highest mountain in Greece, measuring some 2,920 meters. It is a popular destination for hikers who prefer its strenuous pursuits to the usual seaside summer vacation. Olympus is also the mythical home of the ancient Greek gods.
