An Athenian runs for cover in the city center after a sudden summer rainstorm hit the capital yesterday afternoon. A number of streets around Athens were flooded by the downpour but only minor problems were reported in the city. Sudden and heavy rainfall also hit northern Greece yesterday morning, flooding a number of properties in the municipality of Thermaikos near Thessaloniki and forcing the fire brigade to come out to help pump water from their basements, authorities said. No major problems were reported in Thessaloniki itself.
