Beach volleyball players warm up at the FIVB World Tour 2005 Athens Open yesterday at the Olympic beach volleyball stadium in Faliron. Greece’s European champions Vasso Karantasiou and Vicki Arvaniti were the only local players to win their matches in the morning session yesterday. Late yesterday, Karantasiou and Arvaniti also beat Cuba’s Dalixia Fernandez and Tamara Larrea Peraza, who are ranked No. 13 in the world, to go through to the next round. Spectators can catch the tournament’s action up close until Sunday, when the competition winds up with the finals. Ticket prices start at 5 euros.
