It took 40 firefighters with 15 fire engines more than two hours yesterday to put out a burning oil truck close to Hania, Crete, yesterday that crashed and burst into flames while transporting more than 35 tons of fuel. The accident, which happened around 9 a.m., initially sent up a huge mushroom cloud of black smoke that could be seen up to 10 kilometers away, authorities said. Some nearby parked cars suffered damage from the huge flames that threatened to leap to neighboring homes. The driver suffered only minor injuries.
