Kenteris lawyer blasts ‘strange’ CAS tactics

The lawyer for Costas Kenteris and Katerina Thanou yesterday said he was «disgusted» by the behavior of one of the judges at the Court of Arbitration of Sport (CAS), which has asked for more time to consider the fate of the two athletes. Over 14 months after Kenteris and Thanou missed a drug test on the eve of the Athens Olympics and after some 20 hours of testimony, the court in Lausanne adjourned on Monday until an unspecified later date. The sprinters’ lawyer Grigoris Ioannidis said the disciplinary process had been «strange.» He also criticized one of the CAS judges. «[He] turned into a public prosecutor and was clearly in favor of the IAAF (International Amateur Athletics Federation). This is not right and is an insult to justice,» Ioannidis told the Athens News Agency. «Of the 54 objections I raised, only two were accepted. This behavior has troubled and disgusted me,» Ioannidis added.
