Two would-be passengers stand by the counters at Athens’s deserted international airport (above) during yesterday’s 24-hour strike by civil servants which grounded hundreds of domestic and international flights. Only one flight, from New York, landed in Athens yesterday. Meanwhile, in the city center (below), an elderly man walks in front of protesters who joined the civil servants’ action. Hospitals, schools and other public services ground to a halt during the strike.
