Two pensioners take part…
Two pensioners take part in a protest march that culminated at the Maximos Mansion yesterday. Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis met with representatives of the country’s umbrella union for pensioners and assured them that he would do all he could to raise pensions above the level of inflation. The PM also heralded increases for the Farmers’ Pension Fund (OGA) and for subsidies received by low-income pensioners. ‘We sympathize with the difficulties faced by (pensioners); we recognize them and we are fighting to tackle them,’ Karamanlis said. However, unionists said they felt the meeting yielded little in practical terms.
