An F-4E jet…

An F-4E jet shortly before takeoff yesterday at an air force base in Larissa, central Greece. Defense Minister Spilios Spiliotopoulos went on a 45-minute ride in the plane, also known as the Phantom jet, on its final trip as it is being withdrawn to make way for the new F-16 aircraft. The ministry expects to take delivery in 2006 of 20 F-16 jets it has ordered. On Tuesday, Greece said that it had given the final green light for 30 more F-16s from the United States for 1.6 billion euros, which it expects to be delivered in 2009.
