Missed opportunity for ‘the flag of Hellenism’
As a Greek American, I am always sad to see an opportunity for the flag of Hellenism to be waved high and proud fall by the wayside. However, the «conspiracy theorists» have gone a bit overboard – yet again – in thinking that Mikis Theodorakis’s name was intentionally left unannounced. Rather, we ought to look at the general quality of NBC’s coverage of the Games, which aspires to mediocrity. Mr Theodorakis ought to think less of this slight in geopolitical terms and seize it as singular opportunity for moral suasion, an opportunity to pressure NBC to make its Olympic coverage in Athens less biased toward the United States of America and more a celebration of the spirit of sport.
