No return yet for Bourboulia

A Paris court yesterday decided to delay its decision on whether to extradite former judge Constantina Bourboulia, who Greek authorities are very keen to speak to regarding an alleged trial-fixing ring and stock market manipulation. The court is expected to issue its ruling next Wednesday. French prosecutors claimed that some necessary legal information had not been sent from Greece in time. Greek judicial sources denied this was the case. Bourboulia told the court that she was being made a «sacrificial lamb» in a political and economic scandal. She also denied that she ever fled Greece, prompting authorities to issue a European arrest warrant for her. The former judge argued that the warrant had been issued illegally since she had not been called to testify before authorities ordered her arrest. Sources in the Greek judicial system said that despite the delay they still expect Bourboulia to be brought back very soon.
