Medical personnel stand behind a protective screen at the AHEPA hospital in Thessaloniki yesterday during an exercise testing authorities’ responses to cases of bird flu. Two scenarios, involving a Greek couple who had returned from Thailand and an illegal immigrant suspected of being infected with the potentially deadly disease, were acted out. Authorities at the hospital said they tested their procedures for real last month when two visitors to Thessaloniki from China were suspected of having bird flu. Tests for the disease were negative.
