Cocaine discovered in fishy import business
Drugs squad officers found some four kilos of cocaine and 3.4 kilos of cannabis in the back of a truck that arrived in Patras from the Netherlands, officers said yesterday. The drugs and truck were seized early Monday morning at the port and the driver, who owns the vehicle, was arrested. Police were monitoring the truck after its initial driver was arrested in Italy about a month ago when local police found eight kilos of cocaine hidden in the vehicle transporting frozen fish and chicken. The man was imprisoned and took full blame for the smuggling operation, allowing the vehicle’s return to Greece. Greek police were tipped off about the incident and kept an eye on the truck as it entered Greece. Police believe the owner was also involved in the drug deal.
