Drug dealers finding customers on Internet

Drug dealers are abandoning street corners for chat rooms, police said yesterday after arresting a 25-year-old man in Athens for allegedly selling cocaine to teenagers he met on the Internet. Police said that the man allegedly made contact with potential customers in chat rooms frequented mostly by teenagers and would then offer to sell either cannabis or cocaine with the help of messenger systems. Police arrested the man, whose identity was not released, after an undercover officer arranged to meet the suspect to buy cocaine. «The selling of drugs has become electronic. More drug dealers are using the Internet to sell different substances,» said a police source. Authorities had tracked the suspect’s moves for the last few months as it is thought that he had been dealing drugs over the Internet for the last three years.
