Police suspect inside job in Crete robbery

The driver and the guard who were accompanying 1.25 million euros when it was stolen from an armored car in Crete on Friday were yesterday arrested in connection with the island’s biggest robbery in the last two years. Sources said the accounts of the incident given by the two men conflicted and aroused the suspicion of officers. The driver will face a magistrate today, while his colleague remains in the hospital in Hania after suffering a leg injury during the alleged robbery. Officers said that the pair gave different descriptions of how the robbery took place and their accounts did not match as to the number of assailants staging the alleged ambush in Anogeia which led to the money being stolen. Police are not ruling out the possibility that the two men are simply suffering from stress but sources said they are considered the prime suspects for now.
