Leftist group behind attack on dealership
A group calling itself Anti-State Struggle yesterday claimed responsibility for an explosion in the early hours outside a Renault car dealership in Halandri, northern Athens which caused no injuries and limited damage. The homemade explosive device, which detonated shortly before 5 a.m. yesterday, had been planted under a car outside the showroom, according to police. The car, but nothing else, was destroyed. A similar device, planted under another car nearby, failed to go off. An anonymous caller told a private television channel that the bombing had been a protest against the visit of US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, due in Athens today. The caller said Anti-State Struggle had also been behind an attempted attack on a McDonald’s fast food restaurant, also in Halandri, on Saturday morning. Again, the device had failed to ignite.
