Schoolboy killer says he admired Passaris

A 16-year-old schoolboy was charged yesterday with murdering and robbing a 68-year-old man near the northern town of Yiannitsa two weeks ago, in what appears to have been an attempt to emulate Costas Passaris, the Greek prison fugitive arrested in Romania in November. Anastasios Poltasidis was found clubbed to death in his grocery store in the village of Paralimni on December 28. In a search of the boy’s home in the village, where he lives with his father, police found a bloodstained digging implement and clothes the youth, identified as I. A., had allegedly been wearing the day of the crime, The boy told police he admired Passaris, who killed two police guards in his escape from an Athens hospital in February.
