– Goudi. The National Glyptotheque sculpture museum has been in operation since July 2004. The new 2,500-seat theater will open in the former badminton venue in January. The first production will be Matthew Bourne’s «Swan Lake» by an all-male troupe of dancers. «Beauty and the Beast» and the London musical «Mamma Mia» are scheduled for 2007. – Faliron. The beach volleyball facility will be Athens’s main concert venue in the summer months. A final decision has yet to be made about the location of the National Opera’s new building. – Syngrou Avenue. Work will begin over the summer on transforming the old Fix factory into the National Museum of Contemporary Art. The House of Arts and Letters being built by the Alexandros S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation will be completed in 2008. – Pireos Street. has already acquired a distinct cultural identity thanks to the Athens Municipality’s Technopolis and the new Benaki Museum. This year the School of Irene Pappas and a 500-seat venue at the old Tsaousoglou factory will host events run by the Athens Festival. – Hellenikon. The Olympic Games field hockey venue has already been handed over for the summer for large music festivals, like last Saturday’s Ejekt. – Galatsi. The Akropol Haragionis-Sonae Sierra consortium will invest 78 million euros to develop the Olympic Games complex into a shopping and recreation center covering 38,100 square meters that will also host cultural events. It will go into operation in 2008.
