Terrorists threaten more attacks

Far-left militant group Revolutionary Struggle, which claimed responsibility on Tuesday for an attack aimed at former public order minister Giorgos Voulgarakis, warned in a declaration published yesterday of more deadlier attacks to come. The 11-page declaration published in weekly To Pontiki said that the next target would not be as lucky as Voulgarakis, currently Greece’s culture minister. «If we failed now due to unlucky circumstances, this does not mean that we will fail again when we choose to strike some bastard of political or economic power,» the declaration read. On May 30, a bomb went off close to Voulgarakis’s home, slightly injuring a police officer and damaging four parked cars. It was meant to target the minister who was expected to drive past the explosion point moments later. «As head of the security forces, he was responsible for crimes committed against the people, against their rights and liberties, such as the phone tapping and kidnapping of Pakistani migrant workers,» the declaration said. Revolutionary Struggle is the most active terrorist group in Greece after the leaders of November 17 were arrested and convicted before the Athens Olympics Games, claiming six attacks since 2003. The group added that it had called off a previous attack on Voulgarakis due to the risk of a motorcyclist being hurt and stressed that it has no intention of hurting innocent people.
