Three suspects cut their way to freedom

Police launched a manhunt early yesterday for three Albanian nationals who escaped from a police detention center in Polygiros on northern Greece’s Halkidiki peninsula. The men, who were not identified, escaped from their cell by cutting one of the window bars using a sharp instrument, according to police. They are then believed to have walked through the police station’s grounds unnoticed. Authorities said that the prisoners managed to escape by taking advantage of the cover of night and foggy conditions. The men were all accused of theft and had been detained on temporary warrants, according to authorities. A search operation, which was continuing late yesterday, focused on parts of central Macedonia.
