A 37-year-old man who was arrested in Thessaloniki, accused of three counts of bank robbery, told authorities that he wanted to pay for the release of a CD by his singer girlfriend, police said yesterday. The suspect would travel to the bank each time in a luxury car and park nearby, police said. He is then believed to have held up the banks using different objects that looked like a concealed gun. He is accused of three counts of bank robbery in Piraeus and Thessaloniki and stealing about 45,000 euros since the beginning of September. «With the money from the holdups, he would rent a hotel room in the city where he lived with his girlfriend who is a singer at a nightclub. He wanted to finance a record by his girlfriend,» said Stergios Apostolidis, Thessaloniki’s chief of police.
