The Communist-led PAME labor movement demonstrates today and tomorrow outside Parliament to protest the amendment of the Article 16 of the Constitution. The Chamber of Environment and Sustainability and the Greek Ecological Organization Network (PANDOIKO) meet to decide upon action in view of the discussion for the amendment of Article 24 of the Constitution on January 17 in Parliament. Wednesday The amendment of Article 16 of the Constitution set to be discussed in Parliament. The Civil Servants’ Union (ADEDY) stages a work stoppage, from 11 a.m. to the end of their shift, opposing the amendment of Article 16 of the Constitution. The University of Macedonia holds a round-table discussion on «The New Challenges of the European Union in Foreign Policy,» in cooperation with the Italian Educational Institute in Thessaloniki, at 7 p.m. in the university’s amphitheater. The Hellenic Federation of University Teachers’ Associations (POSDEP), the Federation of Secondary School Teachers (OLME) and the Greek Primary Schoolteachers’ Association (DOE) stage a 24-hour strike opposing the government’s decision to amend Article 16 of the Constitution. At 6 p.m. protesters are expected to gather before Parliament. Thursday The Chamber of Environment and Sustainability and the Greek Ecological Organization Network (PANDOIKO) hold a press conference on the planned amendments to the Constitution at the expense of the environment, at 11.30 a.m. at the offices of the Central Union of Greek Municipalities (KEDKE). Friday The University of Patras holds a conference in cooperation with the Leonteio High School in Patissia on «Modern and Innovative Approaches in Education,» at 4 p.m. at the school facilities (17 Neigi, Ano Patissia).
