Amateur pilots forced to land plane in lake
Rescue workers pulled two amateur pilots out of Yliki Lake north of Athens yesterday after an emergency forced them to land their small aircraft in the water. It was not immediately clear what caused the pilots to make the forced landing with their single-engine plane at 2.30 p.m. Emergency workers and an army helicopter were immediately sent to the scene in the prefecture of Viotia. The airplane, which belonged to a local flying club, ended up some 100 meters from the banks of the lake and rescuers had to use a boat to reach the two men, who remained with the aircraft. The amateur pilots were taken to the hospital in Thebes for precautionary checks but were said to be in good health.
